SCOPE:
The Quality Lab Technician, reporting to the Quality Manager, is responsible for supporting the routine
activities of the laboratory to ensure the safety and reliability of AFS products. Supports routine includes
managing the sampling plan, testing samples in-house, and release of finished products in a timely
manner. Supports the daily operations of the lab and control of workflow to ensure operational efficiency
with emphasis on results and continuous improvement. Secondarily, supports day to day leadership of
Quality Management Systems (QMS) and assurance of AFS food safety through significant cross
functional collaboration with R&D/Technical Services, Regulatory, Strategic Sourcing, Manufacturing,
Engineering and Customer Logistics.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
 Effectively manages the sampling plan. Prepares samples and ensures timely testing at outside
labs for microbiological and chemical screening.
 Operates the FT-NIR spectrometer, colorimeters, and other lab equipment. Generate test reports.
 Assist and help maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
 Support and assist with development and maintenance of documentation such as SOP’s, as well
as manuals, policies and procedures as relate to any food safety concerns.
 Monitor and verifies activities to ensure that all products coming in and out of the facility meet
food safety standards.
 Oversee proper maintenance and sanitation of the facility to comply with food safety
requirements.
 Contributes to the development and maintenance of HAACP Plan.
 Supports continuous improvement plans for the AFS laboratory including laboratory certifications
and efficiency projects.
 Ensures QMS compliance and food safety through organizational training and development,
processes and procedures, auditing and continuous improvement.

 Effectively prioritizes work for maximum time effectiveness and efficiency to handle a number of
situations at one time.
 Ensures maintenance of the general appearance and housekeeping of the laboratory and work
areas.
 Collaborates with receiving to manage inbound sample receiving, logging and disposition
tracking.
 Ensures compliance with third party audits e.g., GFSI, customer, etc.
 Maintains Quality KPI’s across the organization.
 Provides a strong voice and advocates for Quality across the organization.
 Work in a safe manner and be aware of the potential safety hazards in the laboratory and
workplace. Responsible for wearing proper PPE, and complying with health and safety
requirements.
 Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in related field (Food Science/Chemistry/Biology/Laboratory Technology) with some
food lab/manufacturing experience.
* Knowledge of food microbiology, food chemistry, and food safety systems & regulation.
* Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).

Applied Food Sciences is building a leading, innovative Biomarker Sciences program that will strongly contribute to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for utilizing natural plant based compounds. We are currently seeking an experienced Sr. Research Scientist to join our new Innovation Center team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement exploratory and preclinical biomarker strategies
  • Evaluate and optimize novel and existing biomarker assay platforms

  • Experience in biochemical, molecular and cellular techniques (i.e. tissue culture, Western blotting, ELISA, next-gen sequencing, flow cytometry, molecular biology)
  • Experience with International clinical trials and or CRO management is highly desired

Applied Food Sciences’ position in Process Engineering searches for the ideal candidate to use their knowledge of engineering, chemistry, health, food science, microbiology, biotechnology, and other sciences to propose, prepare, conduct, direct, and analyze operations data, experiments and plant trials.  The objectives are to further company knowledge and develop new and better processes, products and productivity improvements.  This R&D Process Engineer will engage in product or process development (such as development of new processing strategy or equipment), in productivity improvements and somewhat in quality resolution for making robust processes. 

 

This R&D Process Engineering position will provide project assistance to others in various manufacturing and R&D groups throughout the Applied Food Sciences Manufacturing and Operations teams as well as provide independent project planning and execution. Work will be completed at our new Innovation Center, in our manufacturing facilities, and in customer R&D centers.

 

Responsibilities

  • Design experiments to reflect both small and large-scale manufacturing systems.  Author experimental plans, experimental reports and trial authorizations.  Execute experiments, plant trials and plans for improving the processes at Applied Food Sciences’ manufacturing partner locations.
  • Design process improvements to meet technical needs. This includes the creation of mass balances, process flow diagrams, and cost estimation for modifying processes. The candidate will also lead capital projects and support their definition and implementation.
  • Continuously build a body of technical knowledge around Applied Food Sciences’ unit operations, processes and intellectual properties.
  • Develop and communicate variances and provide improvements in operating standards and equipment to meet Applied Food Sciences’ goals on quality and productivity
  • Develop ideas to improve overall plant performance using sound engineering sciences. Analyze data for ongoing operations to provide direction on upgrades for improved quality and cost
  • Lead site-specific programs or projects leveraging site plus global and external resources. Exert personal influence cross functionally to define solutions to technical issues

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemical, Food, Biochemical, Agricultural Engineering or MS in Food Science.
  • 1 to 2 years of full-time engineering experience required. 3 to 10 years of Process Engineering duties with unit operations applicable to Applied Food Sciences (extraction, separation, sterilization/pasteurization, drying, etc.) preferred.
  • Beverage industry and flavor chemistry experience a bonus

Responsibilities

The Senior Analytical Chemist position will be responsible for the development and validation of analytical methods for the testing and characterization of plant based compounds that can assist in enhancing human health.  The individual should be able to use state-of-the-art instrumentation to facilitate the advancement of botanical ingredient development, characterization and commercialization.

The Senior Analytical Chemist should be able to work with minimal supervision and, where required, perform lab activities in accordance with cGLP/cGMP regulations, established business processes and protocols, and applicable standard operating procedures. In summary the Senior Analytical

Chemist will be required to:

  • Develop, optimize and validate analytical methods.
  • Qualify/transfer analytical methodology to quality control and contract laboratories.
