Inc. AFS specializes in the development and marketing of proprietary technologies such as dietary supplement ingredients, functional ingredients for food and beverages, and food and beverage processing. According to Loretta Zapp, chief executive officer of AFS, "We are very excited about the future of this joint venture. Other companies with complementary, proprietary processes or products have already approached us about possibly joining AFS. We foresee AFS growing rapidly not only via revenue, but also through acquisition or merger." BioChemix, which holds the patents for Glucarate, has been the primary supplier of patented D-Glucarate since its commercial introduction in 1997. D-Glucarate is a patented dietary supplement ingredient that is sold in bulk to more than 50 companies, such as Rexall Sundown, GNC, Weider Nutrition International, Twin Lab, Enzymatic Therapy and Natrol. AFS has licensed all D-Glucarate claims from BioChemix Inc., and will be the sole bulk supplier of D-Glucarate. "Regarding Glucarate sales, all of my customers will not even notice a difference, except for new business cards," noted Lyndon Johnson, vice president of sales and marketing for AFS, who will remain responsible for D-Glucarate sales. "Everything from order entry to customer service will remain the same." OSC is comprised of two facets -- food technologies, and pharmaceutical and diagnostic development. The food division of OSC, which will be a part of the newly formed AFS, specializes in cutting-edge food and beverage health enhancement technologies. OSC is well known for its coffee polyphenol enhancement technology, which has been featured on television and in publications nationwide, including USA Today, Parade and Newsweek. Applied Food Sciences, Inc., based in Austin, is a company focused on the development and distribution of specialized proprietary technologies such as dietary supplement ingredients, food and beverage processing technologies and functional ingredients for food and beverages.
